Mr Hutton studied medicine at London University and graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1995.  His basic surgical training was at St George's Hospital, London while he studied for his MRCS exams. He trained in Orthopaedic Surgery in Cambridge on the East Anglian training programme from 2000 to 2005.

After successfully completing his final orthopaedic fellowship examinations he moved to Auckland, New Zealand to work at the Adidas Sports Medicine Institute looking after the national sports teams.

In 2006 he moved back to the UK to take up an AO/Synthes Travelling Spinal Fellowship position, working at the Harbour View Hospital in Seattle, USA, Vancouver General Hospital in Canada, Cambridge University Neurosurgical Unit, Ipswich Hospital. The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital in the UK.
